Gubongsan (Mt.) and Gubongsan Observatory
Gubongsan (Mt.) is 41.3m tall. It is a mountain that surrounds the eastern part of Chuncheon City and forms the border of Gamjeong-ri, Janghak-ri and Mancheon-ri of Dong-myeon, and has nine peaks. In 1992, the Chuncheon Outer Belt was connected to the mid part of the mountain to connect Gamjeong-ri of Dong-myeon and Hakgok-ri of Shindong-myeon. As accessibility improved, it has become a popular place for rest and relaxation, and it is visited by out-of-town travelers as well. The main hiking course begins across the Observatory Rest Stop to the top of the mountain that continues to Myeongbong. At the top, you can get a view of Bongisan (Mt.) and Uiam Lake. This is known to be the best place to enjoy the nightscape of Chuncheon, and because many people visit here to get out of the summer heat, many cafes can now be seen here. Recently, many people are coming here to experience paragliding.

Gubongsan is hard to get to on public transportation. It is recommended to drive here. From downtown Chuncheon, you can see lights in the middle of the mountain to the east. This is Gubongsan. Gubongsan Observatory, which is located at a place where you can see Chuncheon City, was visited by many people in the past as well. In the summer, it is crowded with people who want to avoid the tropical nights.
Because many people visit this area to enjoy the view, there are many cafes and restaurants on the way where visitors can enjoy a wide choice of foods and beverages. Here are a few of the famous places.
Santorini is famous for its European exterior and beautiful garden. Inside the building on the first floor, there is a store and small cafe. You can purchase food here and eat it on the first floor or outdoor terrace. There is a stage in the outdoor garden where small concerts are held once in a while. On weekends, there are sometimes outdoor weddings being held. At the end of the garden is a white bell tower. You are invited to ring the bell to make wishes. The second floor is an Italian restaurant. Enjoy a meal looking down at Chuncheon City.
Go past Santorini and you will meet Heaven. Heaven is an older restaurant than Santorini. It is a western restaurant with an elegant atmosphere and this place is also situated at a place with beautiful views.
Del Monicos is a relatively recently built Italian restaurant. It has become famous for its exotic exterior, kind service, and great food. Seafood dishes and courses are recommended. On the second floor, tables and chairs are arranged in the opposite direction so that you can enjoy the view of Chuncheon. It would be the perfect place for a date.
Other famous places are Where the Peach Flowers Bloom that has excellent tea and tasty pork cutlets, Jacob’s Station where you can taste Abissinica coffee produced in Chuncheon, the Chinese restaurant Lai Lai, or choose from a bunch of other cafes and restaurants around the observatory.
Gubongsan Observatory is great during the day, but the night view is more highly recommended. You might end up losing track of time looking out at the nightscape drinking coffee that you purchased at the Gubongsan Observatory store. There are a wide variety of people that visit this place such as couples, families with their children, friends, and acquaintances.
The Gubongsan Observatory that brings in people starting at sunset lights up every day. When the sun sets, the skies become dark and downtown Chuncheon begins to sparkle.
